The IMED Valencia hospital has performed its first cardiac surgery to a 70 years old patient, that arrived to the hospital with acute mitral valve failure. The patient was seen first of all by Dr. Oscar Fabregat, manager of the clinical cardiology department of IMED, that considering the acuteness of the clinical symptoms that had the patient, decided to transfer him to the center's ICU.
The intensive care service of IMED Valencia could stabilize the patient, but finally they've decided to schedule the cardiac surgery urgently, a decision that was taken by the intensive care service and the clinical cardiology and cardiac surgery service. Dr. Margarita Calabuig was the surgeon in charge of this first cardiac operation in the hospital.
During this surgery they've performed a mechanical valvular prothesis implant in a regulate way and without problems. The evolution of the patient was successfull, going again to ICU and then to a hospitalization room. If he continues with this good evolution in some days he would be discharged. Dr. Margarit declared feeling "satisfied with the operation performed, that showed that we have the needed means to have a first level cardiac surgery service". Moreover the clinical cardiology manager of the hospital, Dr. Oscar Fabregat, wanted to point out that "it is a big pleasure to have a multidisciplinary team that has the abilities of managing cases like this one in a fast way. We are forming a human group that really works as a team".
